"A one-time purchase of charitable gift annuity can provide the income needed to buy long-term care insurance. This insurance shifts the risk of paying for long-term care to the insurance company."

A Charitable Gift Annuity. . .

A simple combination of two concepts: a charitable gift and income for life.  A gift annuity allows you to make a gift to ministry, while at the same time you benefit from the following:

  • Income for a lifetime where a portion is  tax-free
  • Tax savings--immediately and in the future
  • Favorable treatment of capital gains

A gift annuity meets the needs of many who wish to give but want to make certain that they have also provided for their own financial needs and those of their loved ones.

You can choose from several different options when structuring an annuity with The Regency Foundation:

  • Single-Life Annuity: This pays an annual income to you as long as you live.
  • Two-Life Annuity: You receive annual income for life; then your spouse receives the same payments for life.
  • Deferred Charitable Gift Annuity: This pays an annual income that begins when you specify and continues for one life or two. You would benefit from this tool if your current income is sufficient, but you would like to guarantee future income at a higher rate than a regular annuity. Additionally, you can make a charitable gift and save taxes immediately.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q.     Why should I consider purchasing a gift annuity?

A.     It pays an annual income to you as long as you live, if you are married, at your death, your spouse will receive the same payments for life. PBU (or another charity) is able to carry out the Lord’s work through this gift. There are income and estate tax benefits, too. You receive an immediate income tax deduction and a portion of each payment you receive will be tax-free as well. The gift annuities will not be a part of your estate, so estate taxes and probate costs are avoided.

Q.     What determines the size of each payment?

A.     The amount you place in the annuity, your age at the time the annuity is created, when you would like the payments to begin, and whether you choose a single-life or a two-life annuity all impact the size of each payment.

Q.     How can I find out exactly how much the payments will be?

A.     Annuity rates change frequently. You can receive a free, no obligation quote from The Regency Foundation by filling out the form on this website. Someone will call you or send you your quote.

Q.     Are all annuities purchased with cash?

A.     Cash purchases are by far the most common, but some annuities are purchased through transfers of stocks, bonds, real estate, or other property. The use of appreciated assets for this purchase will have the added advantage of reducing capital gains taxes.

Q.     Can I purchase more than one annuity?

A.     Yes, there is no limit to the number of annuities that can be owned by one person. A minimum purchase of $1,000 is the only requirement.

Q.     Will my payments ever change?

A.     No. Payments cannot be lowered, canceled, delayed, or suspended, regardless of the stock market or the national economy. Your rate of payment on a particular gift annuity agreement will not change. But if you give for additional gift annuities--as many people do--the rate will generally be higher for each agreement made in subsequent years.

Q.     Can I benefit another person through a gift annuity?

A.     Yes, you can designate a loved one to receive the payments either with you, instead of you, or only following your death. This can result in a double gift--one to PBU (or another charity) and the second to a relative or special friend.

Q.     How do I proceed from here?

A.     Contact us by filling out our Gift Annuity Inquiry Form and someone from The Regency Foundation will contact you.

For Your Information

  • With a gift annuity, you simultaneously make a charitable gift and provide guaranteed payments for life to you and/or another person. The fact that you are making a charitable gift may entitle you to income, gift, and estate tax deductions. The fair market value of the property transferred to The Regency Foundation is substantially in excess of the fair market value of the annuity, and the difference between those values constitutes a gift by you to The Regency Foundation for its charitable purposes.
  • A charitable gift annuity is designed primarily as a charitable gift and not as an investment; accordingly, the annuity rates offered by The Regency Foundation are lower than those available through commercial annuities offered by insurance companies and other financial institutions.
  • The Regency Foundation's promise to pay the annuity is not insurance under the laws of Pennsylvania, is not subject to regulation by the Pennsylvania Insurance Department, and is not protected by the Pennsylvania Life and Health Insurance Guaranty Association under Article XVII of the Act of May 17, 1921, known as the Insurance Company Law of 1921, or other protective device.
  • Payments scheduled for your gift annuity are a general obligation of the Foundation and backed by all of the assets of the Foundation and Philadelphia Biblical University (PBU) since 1913.
  • The Regency Foundation has been in existence since 1994. The Foundation is a tax-exempt organization under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and is organized for the support of Philadelphia Biblical University, Langhorne, PA, and other charitable, religious, or accredited educational organizations.
